Signs You Need To Replace Your Doors

October 15, 2021

Your doors are some of the most important features that your home has. They can control who enters and exits your home, add curb appeal to your home, and protect your home from the worst of the elements. However, your doors aren’t designed to last forever, and eventually it will come time to have them replaced. The signs of needing to replace your doors are a little more subtle than you’d think! We give you a crash course on how to pick up these signs below.

Look For Signs Of Damage First

If you have a wooden door, you should check it periodically for signs of warping or peeling. These don’t have to be the biggest marks, either; look on the corners of your door, the hinges and the base frame. Look for cracked paint, signs of the bare wood being shown, or chipping. If you have a metal door, corrosion and rust will likely be your biggest issues. These are a little easier to spot, as you’ll be able to see discoloration on your door. The more significant the bad spots, the more likely it is you need a replacement door.

Feeling A Draft

A good rule of thumb should be this: if you ever need to place a towel under your door to prevent outside air from coming into your home, there’s a good chance that you need a replacement door! Windows control a lot of your home’s insulation, but your door can play just as important of a role in doing so. It can lead to things like a spike in your energy bill and draftiness around the house. If you’re experiencing these, it’s time to replace your door!

It Doesn’t Fit With Your House

If you ever get to the point of wanting to sell your home, curb appeal is incredibly important. It’s the first thing that people see when they look at it! If you’ve noticed that your door is starting to look worse for wear, it might be time to get a replacement. This also applies if you feel like your door doesn’t match with the rest of your home. Your door should look the part for it!
