Achieving Streak Free Windows

December 21, 2018

Keeping windows looking as good as they did when they were first installed can be a challenge and at times feel nearly impossible. This can even be true for individuals who clean their windows as it can be a challenge to ensure that they are left spotless and streak free. Knowing how to not only clean your window but do it in a way that is correct as to not leave behind any streaks is extremely beneficial as you will not only have a better view of the outside world but more natural light will be allowed into your home as was originally intended. If done incorrectly, streaks and scratches can be left behind after attempting to clean a window. Although, those who understand how to clean windows like a pro can attest to these benefits as well as how easy a proper cleaning is to complete when you know what to do.

Window Cleaner

The first and most important step to cleaning windows in making sure that you have the correct type of cleaner. This sounds easy enough, but many individuals often go for the wrong product and have lost the battle before it has even begun. The main reason for this is due to the fact that confusing advertising on types of products such as ammonia or alcohol cleaners can lead individuals to think that they will produce a cleaner finish when in reality they leave behind streaks or even thin films that can attract foreign contaminants.

Solvents such as rubbing alcohol or acetone may be used when you encounter a particularly difficult spot to clean although under no circumstances is it smart to attempt to use a razor or other type of blade to scrape off marks. Chances are you will leave your window with permanent scratches that heighten the chance of it breaking in the future.

Window Wiper

Generally, a soft microfiber cloth is recommended for wiping the solution. This act should be completed by rubbing in a variety of directions as to avoid streaking. Although, if you do find that there are remaining streaks on the window once complete you can just rinse with water in order to remove any of the left-over solution.
