Is Condensation On My Windows Bad?

February 21, 2018

We’re sure you’ve had this issue with your car windows when you’re driving it first thing in the morning. The temperature outside and the temperature in your car are different, which creates small water droplets in the form of condensation. The same thing happens to your home’s windows when the temperature outside is colder than the temperature inside.

What causes window condensation?

In general, cold air holds less moisture than warm air, so when temperatures outside drop but the warm air in your home still carried moisture in it, then condensation occurs on hard surfaces — including windows. The warm, moist air in your home comes into contact with the cold surface of your windows and deposits the moisture onto the glass. Although many homeowners blame their windows for being faulty, it’s actually an issue with your home’s indoor environment being too moist.

How to eliminate window condensation

One of the best ways to get rid of window condensation is to replace your single-pane glass windows with double-paned glass windows. Our window installation experts in Plaistow NH can make this switch quickly and easily for you. Your best option for double-paned glass windows will be the ones with a low-e coating and argon gas filling.

Other solutions to eliminating window condensation include checking for any damp spots on your ceilings or drywall as these are tell-tale signs that there’s a moisture problem in your home. Don’t forget that attics should also be well-ventilated to prevent moisture from collecting and increasing the temperature and humidity level.
